The SMTP server is a configuration setting within all pop E-mail applications. Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, GMail and other providers are basically email services designed to provide you with email mailbox access directly from the web. And you can use these providers in Genie to send email notifications for your backups to read its backup log.
In order to properly use it, you need to configure your email notification settings with the outgoing mail servers of your email provider (Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo! Mail or else).
The Google GMail service offers email client access for retrieving and sending emails through your GMail account. However, for security reasons, GMail uses POP3 over an SSL connection, so you need to use the following settings:
- Set server to smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 465
- Requires SSL: Yes
- Configuration: Auth Login
- Username: GMail Username
- Password: GMail Password
Yahoo! Mail offers standard POP3 access for receiving emails incoming through your Yahoo mailbox. To setup GBM for working with your Yahoo account, you need to use the following mail server settings:
- Set server to smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- Port: 465 or 587
- Requires SSL: Yes
- Configuration: Login plain
- Username: Yahoo! ID
- Password: Yahoo Password
- Using Verizon Yahoo! Accounts:
Verizon Yahoo! Mail also allows SMTP access and requires authentication. To setup GBM for working with Verizon Yahoo! Mail, please use the following settings:
- Set Server to outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
- Configuration: Auth Login
- Port: 465 or 587
- Requires SSL: Yes
- Username: Verizon Yahoo! Mail Full Address
- Password: Verizon Yahoo! Password
As other web based email services, Hotmail is using the HTTP protocol for connecting you to your mailbox. If you want to send Hotmail emails through Genie, use the following:
- Set Server to mail.hotmail.com
- Configuration: Auth Login
- Username: Hotmail ID
- Password: Hotmail Password
Other email carriers have their own SMTP Server Settings which must be configured correctly for Genie to be able to properly send outgoing mail. You will have to enter the proper Port and Authentication settings as well. |
